I created a small 90 second clip, which rendered down very quickly and saved as a small MP4 file (other file formats available). For me, I export to my hard drive and then distribute it however I need later. There are several options when exporting, including the traditional save to hard drive, but also share direct to your YouTube or Vimeo account (log in required). Once you’re happy with your video, it’s time to export it. Also, audio editing in the form of volume adjustment, fade in/out, and noise removal. If you dig a little deeper, there are further options such as video clip speed and colour adjustment, though I wouldn’t class that as colour grading. There’s too much to write about, so here’s a run through for a video we made this week. There are also cursor effects for screen recording, voice narration, audio & visual effects, interactivities such as adding a quiz, and finally captions. Like transitions, there are behaviours & animations for your text, videos or objects. There are transitions for said annotations, including the traditional fade in, slide left to right etc, all of which are customisable. Moving on through the editing options, there are also several annotations you can insert, including text, arrows & shapes. How do you use these items? Simply drag and drop them into the preview window and then double click to edit.

The library option includes a number of pre-set materials you can use and edit to suit, including cartoon illustrations (known as icons), animated intros & outros, lower thirds animations, motion backgrounds, royalty free music tracks, plus for an additional cost, you can download even more via the TechSmith website. I started at the top and worked my way through the editing options and was surprised at the goodies they had on offer! At the centre of the screen is the preview area, with editing options either side of that, timeline at the bottom and standard options/file etc at the top. The program has a modern feel to it, with a grey & green colour scheme, with easy to read test and the overall layout is very simple and easy to navigate. I created a new project, imported some video footage and started to explore. – Transitions, animations, visual & audio effects, interactivity within a video, voice narration & green screen compatibleĪfter installation, I was greeted by a short introduction video, showcasing the vast extent of tutorials & support offered with the software, which is great to see, and you will use it. – Annotations such as arrows, callouts & shapes – Multiple track timeline, allowing multiple layers of video, audio, text – Import your own images, videos (upto 4k) & audio files

Even though Camtasia has been around for a while, it’s only this new update that’s got us excited and we’re glad we got sent a couple of copies to try the software out.Ĭamtasia is marketed to the commercial sector, showcasing its ability to produce video tutorials, presentation and educational experiences, though it can also be used for home videos and YouTube videos etc.
